Pipeline Internal Shotcreting

In Uzbekistan, there are a about 1600 pump stations, and a dozen water reservoirs and hydro power stations. Most of these facilities use large diameter pipelines that were build during the Soviet Union. After prolonged use, replacement of these pipelines can be very expensive. To reduce these costs, Injiniring offers innovative and cost effective solution for rehabilitation of metal pipelines larger than 800mm in diameter by way of internal shotcrete application.

Today, we have successfully performed internal coating with shotcrete for the pipeline in Karkidon water storage reservoir at Fergana region. There are several benefits of this technology:

  • No need to replace existing steel pipeline. This eliminates the need for excavating works, importing steel metal or pipes, welding works, and other costs associated with replacement of steel pipelines;
  • Newly applied mortar coating will protect the pipeline against corrosion, erosion and aggressive chemicals at least up to 50 years;
  • The pipeline will be able to withstand pressures of at least 40 bars;
  • Since 100% of internal surface of pipeline would be coated, this eliminates minor pipe ruptures that may exist that are currently leaking water without the need for steel welding applications and major excavations;
  • In addition, since all welding seams along the existing pipeline would also be coated, it would not be necessary to check for welding defects as steel pipe would become a formwork for newly created concrete layered pipeline and can absorb pressure and other loads;
  • Shotcrete coating is non-toxic and completely safe for use with drinking water and irrigation water pipelines;
  • Easy and low cost maintenance in the future since locations with eroded coating after prolonged use can be selectively re-applied with mortar again, thus eliminating the expensive cost associated with steel pipe replacement.
